PPA for Geary

An easy way to keep Geary up-to-date in Ubuntu

For those of you running Geary on Ubuntu 18.04 or later, you might have experienced the same problem as me where “Accounts” and “Preferences” are no longer accessible in Geary 0.13.3 (the latest in the Geary PPA right now as the maintainer has unfortunately decided to stop maintaining it) unless of course you are tracking Geary via Flatpak. Flatpak is great but as with Snaps, if you are using one of those less popular desktop themes in Gnome, you will end up with Geary sticking out like a sore thumb. Well, at least until (I read somewhere) Ubuntu 19.10 when the Flatpak with better support for desktop themes arrives. We will see…

Meanwhile, with a shout out to Rakshith Ravi for inspiring this, I have put together a PPA for Geary 3.32.2 which not only fixes the aforementioned problem but is also packed with performance improvements and other bug fixes. You will also notice that a notable new feature in this release is that it integrates with your Gnome contacts which can be synced with most of the cloud services out there these days. Currently, the PPA has packages for Ubuntu 18.04 (as of 9/27) and 19.04. You can get yourself hooked up as per below:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:hkdb/geary
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt install geary

What about the latest 3.34?
