InstaCrypt Desktop for Windows
Now comes with an executable installer!
When I first launched InstaCrypt for private alpha, in the interest of time, I just whipped up a quick batch script that did everything especially since InstaCrypt Desktop does not require any elevated permissions for the whole entire installation process. However, I found that batch files really caused a lot of false positives for anti-virus solutions. So a few days ago, I finally had a chance to sit down to do a more official installer in hopes of mitigating this issue. As such, as of today, the official download of the Windows build links to the latest version that comes along with this executable installer.
So-far, our testing has been yielding a much smoother installation process and no anti-virus has blocked the installer from executing. Of course, the “unknown publisher” warning is still there which will be resolved later when we are finally more ready for public consumption.
On another note, I lately noticed a new issue with scoop, the command line installer that I rely on to install OpenSSH automatically which causes installation to fail. As such, as of today, users unfortunately have to install…
