Background

Remember when we were able to mine Bitcoins with just CPU? Ok, maybe you are not old enough to remember that or perhaps, you were just not paying attention to Bitcoin at its early stages. However, we all know in 2021 that regardless of using physical mining rigs or the cloud, without ASIC, mining Bitcoin effectively is just impossible. Needless to say, it’s no longer an everyday thing that any average Joe can just jump in and participate beside joining some “earn Bitcoin when you provide idle computing power of your CPU or GPU” type of service that may or may not payout enough for it to be even worth it.

So does that mean we are out of luck? Did we miss the ship completely to experience a Bitcoin-like phenomenon ourselves? Possibly not! As most of you following my Medium know, I have been tracking Akash for a while now which I am still extremely excited about. Recently, they have released some documentation on how to use Akash’s decentralized cloud service to effectively mine a new Bitcoin-based (forked) token called PKT.
